Each year, the American Red Cross immediately responds to an average of more than 62,000 disasters around the country— from home fires to tornadoes and severe winter weather, hurricanes and floods to transportation accidents and explosions. The Red Cross not only provides food, shelter and clothing, but also offers comfort and care to help those affected by disaster during their time of greatest need. Members of our Annual Disaster Giving Program (ADGP) and Disaster Responder Program pre-invest in disaster relief, ensuring the Red Cross can pre-position supplies, secure shelters, maintain vehicles and train volunteers nationwide, so we’re always ready to respond, day and night. This support also means we can remain on hand to assist people as they recover and help become better prepared for the next disaster.
No one is immune to home fires. They can strike you, your loved ones, neighbors and colleagues – any one of us at any time. In fact, every eight minutes, the American Red Cross responds to a devastating home fire or other disaster. Through our Home Fire Preparedness Campaign, the Red Cross and our partners are aiming to reduce deaths and injuries caused by home fires by 25 percent over the next five years. We are asking every household in America to join us in taking two simple steps that can prevent home fires and save lives: test your smoke alarms monthly, and practice fire drills at home
As part of the Home Fire Campaign, every spring, the Red Cross will rally volunteers to Sound the Alarm and install 100,000 new smoke alarms nationwide, saving lives in some of the nation's most at-risk communities. At the same time, we will raise home fire safety awareness through national marketing and media, and we will build on the spring events by continuing to install smoke alarms and educate the community members year round. You can sponsor our Sound the Alarm efforts and receive premiere ongoing visibility while helping fight people's biggest disaster threat.
Every day across America, men and women answer our nation’s call to military service. Wherever these military members are, they have one thing in common—they know they can turn to the Red Cross for help. As the nation’s longest standing organization serving America’s military families, we are uniquely equipped with a global network of thousands of volunteers and employees to support the military 365 days a year through emergency communications, training, support to ill and injured service members and veterans, and access to community resources. Members of our SAF Giving Program stand with the Red Cross as we help military members, veterans and their families prepare for, cope with, and respond to the challenges of military service.
Every two seconds, someone in America needs blood. Each day, the American Red Cross is helping to save lives by meeting this ongoing need in communities across the country–providing lifesaving blood and blood products to thousands of individuals who need it to survive: cancer patients receiving chemotherapy, surgery patients, accident victims and mothers giving birth. On March 27, 2019, we will celebrate our fourth annual Giving Day.
